Comparative study of conventional and microwave-assisted pyrolysis, steam and dry reforming of glycerol for syngas production, using a carbonaceous catalyst

چکیده
The thermal valorization of glycerol to produce synthesis gas has been investigated under conventional and microwave heating systems. Different processes (pyrolysis, steam reforming and dry reforming) are compared, using a commercial activated carbon as catalyst. The reforming processes that employ oxidizing agents (CO2 or H2O) were found to promote higher glycerol conversions than mere termal decomposition. Steam reforming generates the lowest gas fraction and the highest amounts of hydrogen and syngas, while the opposite occurs in the dry reforming experiments. Microwave processing produced higher gas yields with large syngas content than conventional heating processes in all cases. The use of carbon-based catalysts appears to be highly suitable for producing synthesis gas with a H2/CO ratio close to 1, minimum CO2 emissions being an additional advantage.

Methane oxy-steam reforming over a highly efficient Ni/Al2O3 nanocatalyst prepared by microwave-assisted impregnation method
An alumina-supported nickel catalyst was prepared by impregnation of Ni2+ solution onto mesoporous alumina under microwave irradiation (denoted as M-Ni/Al2O3). For comparison, a catalyst with the same nickel content was prepared by conventional impregnation method (denoted as UM-Ni/Al2O3). Both M-Ni/Al2O3 and UM-Ni/Al2O3 catalysts were applied to the syngas (H2 + CO) production by methane oxy-s...

Steam reforming of methanol is one of the promising processes for on-board hydrogen production used in fuel cell applications. Due to the time and energy consuming issues associated with conventional synthesis methods, in this paper a quick, facile, and effective microwave-assisted solution combustion method was applied for fabrication of copper-based nanocatalysts to convert methanol to hydrog...

Initial results are presented for the production of hydrogen from waste lubricating oil using a chemical looping reforming (CLR) process. The development of flexible and sustainable sources of hydrogen will be required to facilitate a ‘hydrogen economy’. The novel CLR process presented in this paper has an advantage over hydrogen production from conventional steam reforming because CLR can use ...
متن کاملSteam Reforming and Gasification of Pyrolysis Oil Reactor and Process Development for Syngas Production from Biomass
Gasification of pyrolysis oil was studied in a fluidized bed over a wide temperature range (523-914 °C) with and without the use of nickel-based catalysts. Noncatalytically, a typical fuel gas was produced. Both a special designed fluid bed catalyst and a crushed commercial fixed bed catalyst showed an initial activity for syngas (H2 and CO) production at T >700 °C. However, these catalysts los...
